Journaling is available to Calm Health users 18+ with their app language set to English. Not all Calm Health members will have access to this feature. For questions about access to this feature, please contact your HR, benefits, or health plan administrator.
Journaling in the Calm Health app uses AI-guided prompts to help you reflect on and practice skills learned in specific clinical programs. Your entries are saved automatically in your Profile, so you can revisit your progress at any time. This feature is not an AI chatbot nor therapy. It does not give advice, diagnosis, or health recommendations.
Where to Start a Journal Entry
You can access Journaling from the Profile tab, or after completing certain sessions within the following clinical programs:
- Anxiety Survival Guide — Dr. Julie Smith
- Anxiety 2.0: Next Level Tools for Anxiety — Ian Fishman
- Build Stress Resilience — Chibs Okereke
Completing a Journal Entry
Tapping "Start Journaling" from the Profile tab or your clinical session resources walks you through a short, guided reflection:
- Answer each prompt in the space provided by typing or using voice-to-text. There is a 1,000 character limit per response.
- A progress bar shows how far along you are in the exercise.
- After each response, you'll see a short AI-generated reflection, before moving to the next prompt.
- Tapping "Finish" at the end of the session will save the entry to your Profile.
Note: You don't have to complete a journal entry. You can skip the exercise or cancel at any point. If you cancel, that entry won't be saved or show up in your Profile.
Viewing and Managing Your Entries
To see your past Journal entries, go to Profile:
- Your 3 most recent entries appear with an AI-generated title and summary.
- Tap View All to see your full entry history.
- Tap any entry to read the full reflection.
- You can delete an entry at any time by opening the individual entry and using the three dots in the upper right corner, then tapping Delete Journal Entry.
Once you submit an entry, you can't edit it. If you'd like to make a change, you'll need to delete the entry and start a new one.
Who Can See Your Journal Entries
Your journal entries are completely private to you. Your employer, health plan, or organization cannot see the contents of your individual entries or usage within the Calm Health app. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.
Please note: While your entries are private, our system does scan for language that may raise a safety concern. If something you write is flagged, you'll see a supportive message along with a crisis resource banner. You can tap the banner for more information, or continue on to the next part of your entry.
