How to Play Calm on Smart Speakers (Alexa, Google, Sonos & HomePod)
Connection Method Update
- Direct Voice Commands: Calm is no longer supported via native voice assistants (e.g., "Alexa, open Calm" or "Hey Google, play Daily Calm").
- The Solution: You must stream content from your mobile device using AirPlay, Chromecast, or Bluetooth.
Streaks & Session History
- Will this count toward my stats? generally, NO.
- Playing a session via AirPlay, Bluetooth, or Casting often bypasses the app's internal timer. This means the session will not automatically count toward your Daily Streak or appear in your History.
- The Fix: If you want to keep your streak alive, you must add the session manually after you finish listening. See How to Correct a Broken Streak
Apple HomePod (Siri)
The best way to listen is via AirPlay.
- Open the Calm app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Start playing your session.
- Tap the AirPlay icon (triangle with circles) in the player or Control Center.
- Select your HomePod from the list.
- Note: You cannot ask Siri on the HomePod to start a session directly.
Google Home / Nest Audio
Method 1: Google Cast (Recommended)
- Ensure your phone and Google Speaker are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Calm app on Android or iOS.
- Play a session and look for the Cast Icon (rectangle with Wi-Fi waves) in the top corner.
- Select your speaker to begin casting.
Method 2: Bluetooth
- Say "Hey Google, pair Bluetooth."
- Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and tap your Google Speaker.
- Any audio from the Calm app will now play through the speaker.
Sonos Speakers
Important Update: As of January 2025, the direct "Calm Service" within the Sonos app has been discontinued.
How to listen now:
- iOS Users: Use AirPlay to stream from the Calm app to your Sonos speaker.
- Android Users: Use Bluetooth (if your Sonos speaker, like the Roam or Move, supports it) or Line-In connection.
- Note: You can no longer browse the Calm library directly inside the Sonos controller app.
Amazon Echo (Alexa)
Calm does not have an active Alexa Skill. You must use Bluetooth.
- Say "Alexa, connect to my phone."
- Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and select your Echo device.
- Open the Calm app and play your session.
- Warning: If you find a "Calm" skill in the Alexa store, it is likely "Calm Radio," a separate company not affiliated with us.
