If you are using an iOS device (iPhone or iPad), the Calm app can sync directly with your device's system settings. When your device is set to Dark Mode, selecting one of our Dark Mode-compatible backgrounds will cause the scene to automatically switch from a daytime view to a nighttime view!
How to Set Scenes to Switch Automatically
In order for your device to seamlessly switch between the day and night scenes as the sun goes down, you will need to enable the "Automatic" appearance setting on your iOS device:
Open your device's primary Settings app.
Navigate to Display & Brightness (or search for 'Appearance' in your Settings search bar).
Under the Appearance section, toggle Automatic to the ON position.
Your phone will now automatically switch between Light Mode and Dark Mode based on the time of day, and the Calm app will follow suit!
Using a Locked Light or Dark Mode
If you prefer to keep your phone locked in either Light Mode or Dark Mode (rather than having it switch automatically), our compatible scenes will simply adapt to whichever setting you have chosen:
Locked to Light Mode: Scenes will permanently stay on the daylight version.
Locked to Dark Mode: Scenes will permanently stay on the nighttime version.
Which Scenes are Compatible with Dark Mode?
Currently, the following background scenes offer both day and night versions:
Jasper Lake
The Waterfall
Blue Gold
Calm River
