The Calm app offers a variety of meditation styles and approaches to support you along your lifelong mindfulness journey. All of our teachings are universal and completely non-religious, making them accessible and welcoming to everyone.
Our Core Focus: Mindfulness
Most of our meditations teach the basics of mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in the present moment without judgment.
Specific Techniques Taught in the App
Within the larger umbrella of mindfulness, some of our sessions introduce specific practices designed to help you develop non-judgmental awareness and a sense of acceptance (or equanimity). These specialized practices include:
Vipassana (Insight Practice): Techniques focused on deep self-observation to help build awareness and insight.
Loving-Kindness: Practices dedicated to cultivating compassion, warmth, and kindness toward yourself and others.
Sleep Meditations: Guided instructions specifically designed to help you let go of a busy mind, relax your body, and easily drift off into a good night’s rest.
Learn from Guest Instructors
Because mindfulness is a lifelong pursuit, it can be incredibly helpful to learn from a variety of different perspectives. In addition to our core daily content, Calm features meditation sessions led by expert guest instructors, including Shinzen Young, Elisha Goldstein, and Malika Chopra. Each instructor brings their own unique style and approach to the practice!
