Find answers to frequently asked questions about Calm Health, how it works, and how to get the most out of your experience.
What is Calm Health?
Calm Health is an invitation-only app available through your health insurance plan, physician/care team, or employer. It gives you access to digital mental health programs created by psychologists to support specific conditions and mental health needs, along with a curated selection of popular Calm content.
Calm Health's programs are based on therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
How to get started:
- Take a quick mental health screening based on how you are feeling.
- Based on your screening results and self-reported input, follow a personalized Plan to support your condition and mental health needs.
- See how your mental health changes over time.
Please note: Some features may not be available in your region or through your sponsor.
What is the mental health screening?
The mental health screening is a short survey that personalizes your Calm Health Plan based on how you are feeling. It asks about your thoughts and feelings over the past two weeks. The screening is based on two clinically validated, industry-standard tools: the PHQ-9 and GAD-7. For more information about the screening and these tools, visit our Calm Health Product FAQs.
Why should I fill out the screening?
The mental health screening helps personalize your Plan and keeps your recommendations relevant as your needs change. We recommend retaking the screening every four weeks to track your progress over time. You will also receive a reminder in your account when it's time to retake it.
How is Calm Health different from the Calm app?
The Calm app is open to everyone and is focused on sleep, relaxation, and daily mindfulness, with a vast library of content including soothing soundscapes, guided meditations, and celebrity-narrated Sleep Stories.
Calm Health, available through select health insurance plans, physician/care teams, and employers, is designed to support a variety of health and life experiences. Calm Health's personalized Plans guide you to evidence-based programs and resources most relevant to your needs. Calm Health also includes the majority of content from the Calm app, such as Sleep Stories, meditations, and more.
Calm Health is built to comply with HITRUST and HIPAA privacy and security standards and can be integrated into care programs.
I'm a paid Calm subscriber. Does that give me access to Calm Health?
No, Calm Health is only available through a sponsorship from a health insurance plan, physician/care team, or employer. A paid Calm Premium subscription does not include access to Calm Health.
If I already have a Calm account, do I need a separate username and password to access Calm Health?
No. You can use the same Calm username and password to access both Calm and Calm Health.
I’m working with a therapist currently. Can I still use Calm Health?
Yes. Calm Health is designed to supplement other forms of support and is not intended as a substitute for care by a physician, therapist, or other mental health care provider.
